OREM, Utah (AP) - Orem police officers have brought some holiday cheer to an Orem couple who lost their home in a fire last month.

After the Nov. 24 fire, Orem police officer Greer Haymond called to meet Larry and Gloria Peterson at their son’s house under the pretense that he had questions about the fire for an official report.

KUTV reports (https://bit.ly/1zwwWCn) Haymond instead surprised the couple with a Christmas tree and a box of ornaments.

Haymond was one of the officers who responded to the fire and noticed as he left the scene that day that the family’s holiday decorations were melted in their front yard.

Haymond says his fellow officers chipped in for the gift.

The couple’s son Jeremy Peterson says the present moved his mother to tears and meant a lot to the family.
