WOODLAWN, Md. (AP) - Baltimore County police say a report of a person with a gun inside a high school was a hoax.

Cpl. John Wachter says the report came in just after 11 a.m. Wednesday, and that Milford Mill Academy near Woodlawn was on lockdown as police conducted the search. The situation was downgraded from lockdown to alert shortly after 1 p.m.

Police said in a statement on the department blog that a rumor circulated that someone with a gun was going to shoot up the school. Officers say a photo of a student near at the school circulated on social media with the gun threat rumor, and another student forwarded the information to a parent, who called the school.

Authorities say the student pictured poses no threat to the school.
