MISSION, Texas (AP) - Authorities in South Texas say a grenade discovered by a man cleaning up a lot is inert.

Fifty-four-year-old Juan Perez tells KRGV-TV (https://bit.ly/1wc9Hwe ) he picked up the grenade at the lot near Mission on Tuesday before he realized what it was. He says it weighed about 3 pounds and had a pin.

The McAllen Police Department bomb squad was called in to remove the grenade and search for others. Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies say the grenade wasn’t able to explode and that no others were found.

It’s unclear why the grenade was in the lot. Deputies say it could be linked to a recent police chase in the area.
