WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - A northeastern Pennsylvania school district is patching up a brick wall in an elementary school after a woman drove her SUV through it in a pre-dawn crash.

The 34-year-old driver was taken to the hospital after the Wednesday morning accident. Police say the woman suffered a leg injury and was uncooperative with officers and wouldn’t explain what caused her to drive into the Heights Murray Elementary School wall.

Custodians found Maria Panetta about 6 a.m. behind the wheel of her Chevrolet Blazer inside the gymnasium and called police. The school remained open following the crash, with gym class held elsewhere and children eating lunch in their classrooms.

Heights Murray Principal Hal Gabriel says surveillance cameras recorded the crash at 3:14 a.m. Firefighters extricated her from the heavily damaged vehicle.
