PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) - Officials say a textile company will close its plant in the east Alabama town of Phenix City.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs said the closure next year will result in the loss of 140 jobs.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1ByAiXC) that Johnston Textiles consolidated all of its operations in Phenix City in 2012, when it closed plants in Opp and Shawmut.

Officials say the layoffs will happen in the next 60 days.

Johnston Textiles produces fabrics for industrial uses in hotels, churches, schools and other institutions.

Statewide, employment in textile product mills declined by more than 8 percent between October 2013 and September 2014, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
