BRISTOL, Va. (AP) - Republican Todd Pillion has won a special election to fill a southwest Virginia seat in the House of Delegates.

Results posted on the Virginia Department of Elections’ website show Pillion received 66 percent of the votes cast in Tuesday night’s election. Democrat Donnie Rife received 33.6 percent of the votes. Less than 1 percent of voters chose a write-in candidate.

Pillion will replace Republican 4th District Delegate Ben Chafin. Chafin won a special election in August for the 38th Senate District seat held by Democrat Phillip Puckett, who resigned in June. Chafin was a delegate for less than a year.

The 4th District includes Dickenson County and parts of Russell, Washington and Wise counties.
