TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The executive director of a housing development for families that adopt foster children says someone is stealing bicycles from the children.

Paul Halpern told The Tampa Tribune (https://bit.ly/1uqXzmS ) that eight bikes were stolen at Tampa’s New Life Village last week, bringing the total to 15 this year. He says in some cases, thieves used bolt cutters to snip the cables the secured the bikes to bicycle racks.

An 8-year-old boy’s bike was stolen last week from the front porch of his home.

New Life Village is a gated community with 31 homes. Residents have either adopted or are in the process of adopting foster children.

Halpern is hoping someone will donate new or used bikes to replaces the stolen ones. They are for boys and girls ages 4 to 18.
