IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - A March trial has been scheduled for a former high school coach in Iowa City who police say tried to pull a gun after his vehicle was pulled over.

Court records say 31-year-old Edgar Arceo has pleaded not guilty to a weapons charge and a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Arceo’s vehicle was pulled over Nov. 26. Police say that when officers approached Arceo he was reaching into a pocket for a loaded handgun until an officer stopped him. Arceo’s attorney, Randy Larson, said Thursday that Arceo had told the officers that he had the weapon.

City High School principal John Bacon has told the Iowa City Press-Citizen (https://icp-c.com/1GnNP2p) that Arceo has quit his coaching job and quit as director of the Student Advisory Center.
