WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) - The spending bill before Congress includes $58 million to help pay for a new cadet barracks at West Point.

Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the inclusion of the barracks funding Wednesday. It’s the third federal funding installment for the barracks, which is the first constructed at the U.S. Military Academy since 1972.

Barracks for 650 cadets are now under construction are designed to fit into the academy’s gothic stone architecture.

Supporters of the spending bill are trying to get it approved by the Thursday deadline.
