CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Conway is adding cameras to help police officers better monitor city parks.

Area media outlets report the city has approved the purchase of a $44,000 wireless camera system.

Nine cameras will be placed in parks, along the city’s popular Riverwalk and at the recreation complex in Conway about 15 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach.

Lt. Selena Small says the cameras are not being installed because there is a lot of crime in the parks. But Small says the cameras will allow officers another way to monitor larger areas.

She says the cameras will augment police foot patrols.
