WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - Authorities have charged an Illinois theater owner who they say owes the state at least $1.3 million in taxes.

The Illinois Department of Revenue says 57-year-old Edward Bulthaup III of Woodridge was arrested Wednesday on more than 100 counts of felony tax evasion, fraud and failure to file tax returns at the Hollywood Palms movie theater in Naperville and Hollywood Boulevard theater in Woodridge.

Bulthaup owned and operated the Hollywood Boulevard theater until Feb. 10 of this year.

Authorities say Bulthaup underreported sales by a total of $18 million at the two theaters between 2009 and 2013.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports Bulthaup appeared at a bond hearing Wednesday afternoon by video feed from DuPage County jail. He says he has never committed fraud.

He was ordered held on $250,000 bond.
