JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Northern Missouri congressman Sam Graves will be switching committee assignments when the new legislative session begins in January.

Graves says he has been appointed to serve on the House Armed Services Committee.

He will be leaving the Small Business Committee, where he has been chairman. A Graves spokesman says he was prohibited by term limits from remaining in that leadership role.

Graves will join congresswoman Vicky Hartzler as the second Missouri Republican on the Armed Services Committee. Hartzler’s west-central Missouri district includes Fort Leonard Wood and Whiteman Air Force Base.

Graves noted that his district includes an Air National Guard wing in St. Joseph and an Independence plant for ATK Manufacturing that provides small-arms ammunition to the military.

Graves also will remain on the House Transportation Committee.
