CINCINNATI (AP) - Authorities in southwest Ohio say a student has been arrested for bringing a gun to school.

Princeton City Schools reported that a staff member was told a high school student had a gun at school on Wednesday afternoon. The school district says a resource officer and staffers responded according to safety procedures. Police say they confiscated the handgun, and the student was taken to the juvenile youth center in Cincinnati.

Police say the student faces charges including possession of a deadly weapon on school grounds and carrying a concealed weapon.

There apparently were no threats and it wasn’t immediately clear why the student brought the gun. District officials say in a statement that, in their words, “consequences will be assigned” pending a full investigation.

The minor’s name wasn’t released.
