QUINCY, Ill. (AP) - The mayor of Quincy says the city and an Iowa company can’t come to terms on a deal to develop the site of an historic downtown hotel.

Mayor Kyle Moore held a news conference Thursday morning at Quincy City Hall. He says the city and Hobart Historic Restoration have been negotiating since late September but haven’t been able to reach a deal on the former Newcomb Hotel site.

The hotel opened in 1888 but had been empty for years. It was destroyed in a Sept. 6, 2013, fire.

The city later took possession of the property. The developer wanted to construct a five-story building with commercial space and apartments.
