PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota man has been sentenced to one year in prison for striking a man with his pickup truck following a graduation party brawl.

U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says 22-year-old Diego Ramon Lara was also ordered to one year of supervised release. Lara earlier pleaded guilty to assault by striking, beating and wounding.

Authorities say Lara on May 24 got into a verbal argument with people who attended a party in Cherry Creek. He left the party, but later returned to the area with is pickup.

Prosecutors say Lara stopped at an intersection in front of partygoers, exchanged words and gestures with a man, accelerated and struck the man. The victim suffered injuries to his leg and ankle.

Lara is under the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
