NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A nationally recognized FedEx executive will give the commencement address at Tennessee State University on Saturday.

Shannon A. Brown worked his way up from a package handler to become senior vice president/chief human resources and diversity officer at the Memphis, Tennessee-based shipping giant.

He has been named to Black Enterprise magazine’s list of “100 Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America,” and under his leadership FedEx has been ranked among the magazine’s “40 Best Companies for Diversity.”

Brown was appointed by Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam to the University of Tennessee System Board of Trustees and to the advisory board for Western Governors University Tennessee.

More than 400 undergraduate and graduate candidates will receive their degrees in various disciplines at the commencement ceremony in Nashville.
