NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Two first-half touchdown passes by quarterback Cee Jay Powell powered top-seeded Livonia over No. 3 Amite, 43-14, in the 2014 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Class 3A State Championship game.

The Wildcats (14-0) took a 7-0 lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by Powell, but a 53-yard touchdown run by Kenner Harrell brought Amite (12-3) ahead 8-7.

Powell connected with Kendrick Paul for a touchdown pass from nine yards and on Livonia’s next possession hit Stephen Guidry for a 4-yard touchdown pass and 21-8 halftime score.

Their first second-half possession extended the lead with a Powell’s 4-yard pass to Paul.

It was Livonia’s first 11-man football state championship. The school had to forfeit last year’s runner-up trophy because of an ineligible player.
