PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a man who allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend and her adult son was captured shortly before he reportedly planned to commit suicide.

The Record (https://bit.ly/1uDbma4) reports that 40-year-old Jonathan Bell, of Lodi, was arrested Friday in Paterson, several hours after the attacks occurred at a Hasbrouck Heights home where the two victims lived. Bell was charged with assault and weapons offenses, and it wasn’t known Saturday if he had retained a lawyer.

Authorities say Bell entered the home around 1:30 a.m. by climbing through a window.

Once inside, he was confronted by his ex-girlfriend’s 20-year-old son. Bell allegedly stabbed the son in the head, then stabbed his 40-year-old ex-girlfriend in the forehead, nose and arm.

Both victims were treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
