PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Three people escaped injury when two men started shooting at them on a northern New Jersey street.

Paterson police say the shooting occurred around 3 a.m. Sunday.

They say two men and a woman had just left a rooming house on 12th Avenue when they saw two masked men walking toward them. The three people ran back inside the building, but the two masked men soon began shooting when one of the three looked out a window.

Four bullets pierced the window, but no one was hit. Authorities say 10 shell casings were found on the ground outside the building.

It’s not yet known what sparked the shooting, which remains under investigation.
