TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) - An object that resembled a military explosive at a Southern California sporting goods store prompted evacuations and a call to the bomb squad before the scene was declared safe.

Torrance police say someone brought what appeared to be some sort of military ordnance into Turner’s Outdoorsman on Saturday night.

The store and surrounding businesses were evacuated, but later cleared to reopen after a Los Angeles County sheriff’s bomb squad came and removed the device.
