BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) - The widow of a southwest Florida pastor slain in a triple homicide was among the mourners who gathered to remember the wife of the man charged in the killings.

Police say Amber Avalos, the Rev. James “Tripp” Battle and Avalos’ neighbor Denise Potter were killed Dec. 4 by Avalos’ husband, who is charged with three counts of second-degree murder.

Avalos worked at Battle’s church in Bradenton. At Avalos’ funeral Saturday, Battle’s widow called the mother of six an inspiration.

She joined other mourners in remembering Avalos as a devoted churchgoer. The Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1zakWGO ) that Joy Battle said Avalos “was small but she was so mighty” because of her faith.

Avalos’ mother-in-law also attended the service and said she had to “stand up for Amber.”
