MANDAN, N.D. (AP) - The North Dakota State Patrol says a 77-year-old Mandan man is dead after the loader he was operating collided with a freight train.

The patrol says the man was operating the skid steer loader on a railroad crossing when he was struck by an eastbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train about 10 miles west of Mandan.

The crash happened around 1:45 p.m. Saturday. The train was powered by three locomotives and was carrying 121 loaded coal cars. The Bismarck Tribune (https://bit.ly/1BCS9Kb ) reports all the cars stayed on the tracks.

The name of the victim was not released. An engineer and a conductor on the train were not hurt.
