ADELANTO, Calif. (AP) - A city in San Bernardino County has approved plans to build a fourth lockup for inmates.

The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/1zlDXVs ) that the city of Adelanto voted 4-1 last week to build a jail that houses more than 3,200 inmates.

If constructed, it would be built near other detention facilities in an industrial park at the edge of town.

The city hopes to earn more than $1 million a year by leasing the facility to Los Angeles County.

Some critics say the vote was premature because Los Angeles County supervisors have yet to sign a contract with the city.

Adelanto is home to a privately run jail for immigrants, a San Bernardino County jail and a prison holding state inmates.
