GREENBELT, Md. (AP) - Authorities say a motorist was killed and two other people were injured when a stolen ambulance crashed in Greenbelt.

The incident began about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Police say two emergency workers saw an accident on the Capital Beltway and stopped to assist. Police say the driver of the crashed vehicle assaulted the crew, stole the ambulance and drove off. Minutes later, the stolen ambulance crashed, striking 12 vehicles. The ambulance overturned near Greenbelt Road.

Police arrested 34-year-old Sebastian Isaksen of Silver Spring. He is charged with carjacking and assault. Police said Monday that Isaksen was injured in the crash and is in the hospital in police custody.

Police identified the victim who died as 77-year-old Alvin Hargrave of Greenbelt. A pregnant woman was also injured and is in stable condition.
