LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Dona Ana authorities say a 40-year-old man was arrested and accused of attacking his live-in girlfriend after the woman’s 14-year-old son responded to his mother’s screams for help and went to a neighbor’s house to call 911.

The Sheriff’s Office says Anton Salopek was arrested Saturday night in a shop on the Las Cruces-area property after deputies responded to the 911 call.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Salopek was arrested on suspicion of aggravated against a household member causing great bodily harm, kidnapping and interference with communication.

The Sheriff’s Office says the 35-year-old mother screamed for help as Salopek allegedly tried to fill the bathtub and force her under water after they argued and he allegedly smashed her phone.

It was not immediately clear whether Salopek has a lawyer.
