FORMER PHILLY DAY CARE WORKER SET FOR SENTENCING IN 5-YEAR-OLD’S KIDNAPPING

Twenty-one-year-old Christina Regusters donned a Muslim dress and veil to impersonate the girl’s mother and take her from Bryant Elementary School in January 2013. The girl was sexually assaulted during a 19-hour ordeal.

PHILADELPHIA POLICE SHOOT MOTORIST

Police say the motorist was shot and killed as he struggled with two officers during a traffic stop about 3 a.m. Police say they found a gun in the console of the man’s rented Dodge Charger. Police statistics show this is the 26th officer-involved shooting in Philadelphia this year and the fourth in which a suspect was killed.

PARENTS OF OVERDOSE VICTIM SEEK LENIENCE FOR MAN WHO SUPPLIED THE DRUGS

Ken and Bonnie Kline Smeltzer are both pastors and want Centre County prosecutors and a judge to emphasize treatment and recovery when 28-year-old Ryan Kemp is sentenced. Police say 21-year-old Elizabeth Kline Smeltzer died in Kemp’s home early Jan. 25 after he invited her over to use heroin and clonazepam.

RETIREMENT PARADISE LOST

Records The Associated Press has obtained under the state’s Right-to-Know Law show nearly 200 former public employees in Pennsylvania have had their pensions seized for job-related misconduct over the past decade.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS STAR SIDNEY CROSBY HAS THE MUMPS

The Penguins at first believed the swelling on the right side of his face was related to a salivary gland injury Crosby sustained in a game against Carolina on Nov. 29. But now doctors say Crosby’s on the growing list of NHL players with the contagious virus. Players from Anaheim, Minnesota, the New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils are among those affected.
