BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Baptist Health System and Tenet’s Brookwood Medical Center are in talks that could lead to the formation of a new company.

Baptist announced Monday that is has signed a nonbinding letter of intent to with a Tenet subsidiary to form a company that includes Brookwood. Baptist’s hospitals include Princeton Baptist Medical Center, Shelby Baptist Medical Center and Walker Baptist Medical Center.

Company officials told Al.com (https://bit.ly/1vT9Qji ) that they are planning a 90-day review period before any final deal.

Baptist CEO Keith Parrott said the hospitals are looking to form an entity that serves a broader base in Birmingham.

Meetings for employees were scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Parrott said there were no immediate plans for layoffs.
