BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Buffalo police are investigating a shooting on the city’s east side that left a 24-year-old man dead.

Police say the shooting occurred shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday. The victim was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he died later in the day. His identity has not been released.

Neighbors tell the Buffalo News (https://bit.ly/1vReoa7 ) they overheard police at the scene saying the victim was shot in the neck. The city residents said the victim ran down a street toward police officers, who either happened to be driving by or were responding to the scene.

Police combed neighborhood yards looking for evidence shortly after the shooting. One officer searched the ground for shell casings and inspected a house for possible bullet holes.
