PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A former Philadelphia sportscaster has withdrawn a guilty plea to charges of stealing more than $300,000 by selling fake sports-themed trips that he said would help various charities.

Appearing in Bucks County Court for sentencing Monday, 62-year-old Donald Tollefson unexpectedly sought the change of plea and said he plans to represent himself at trial because he cannot afford an attorney.

Tollefson pleaded guilty in September to defrauding at least 200 victims through travel packages to the Super Bowl or other sporting events. Prosecutors alleged that he took money for nonexistent tickets and said some of it would go to charity.

Defense attorney Sharif Abaza said earlier that Tollefson had grappled with alcohol problems for decades and drug addiction in more recent years, but had been sober for nearly a year.
