SOUTH OTSELIC, N.Y. (AP) - A fire in the rural upstate New York hamlet of South Otselic has destroyed a building that included a general store, a satellite office for the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, and several apartments.

The fire was reported early Sunday afternoon and officials say by nightfall the building had been mostly torn down.

There were no fatalities.

School Superintendent Richard Hughes and High School Principal Dan Henner call it a devastating loss on the Otselic Valley Central School District’s Facebook page.

South Otselic is about 45 miles southeast of Syracuse.
