GREENSBORO, Ala. (AP) - A former Hale County deputy has pleaded guilty to stealing drugs seized during investigations.

Former deputy Darrell McGuire of Safford pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of second-degree theft. Circuit Judge Marvin Wiggins gave him a suspended 10-year sentence and placed him on probation for three years.

District Attorney Michael Jackson said the cases involved cocaine and marijuana that were stolen in 2008. He said McGuire worked on two drug cases and never turned in the drugs.

Jackson said McGuire violated the public’s trust and his oath as an officer.
