CHERRY VALLEY TOWNSHIP, Ill. (AP) - Illinois officials have awarded $2 million in for fixes to a Winnebago County road near a new industrial park.

The Rockford Register Star reports (https://bit.ly/12TKQBS ) the Illinois Department of Transportation is awarding the money to finance improvements including turn lanes and lighting on Baxter Road. The county is seeking $4.7 million for upgrades that would help develop the Rock39 Industrial Park in Cherry Valley Township.

Winnebago County board chairman Scott Christiansen says the county will likely fund the rest of the expenses with bonds.

The planned upgrades include adding pavement designed to withstand 120,000-pound truck loads, widening and resurfacing Baxter Road to three lanes and improving drainage.

A representative for the industrial park’s owner says the infrastructure improvements will help the area develop. He says the industrial park is “shovel ready” for development.
