CANTON, Ga. (AP) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will look into the death of an inmate at the Cherokee County jail.

Officials said Demetrie Jones died Saturday. He had been in custody since Dec. 10, when he was accused of probation violations.

Sheriff’s Lt. Jay Baker said Jones was being treated by the jail’s medical unit at the time of his death. Baker told WXIA-TV (https://on.11alive.com/1vT5vwD ) that the inmate had medical conditions that required him to be kept in isolation.

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday. The GBI investigates many jail deaths as a matter of procedure.
