QUINCY, Ill. (AP) - A Quincy man is jailed on $5 million bond after being charged in the death of an apartment guest who authorities say was pummeled with a metal pipe.

The Quincy Herald-Whig (https://bit.ly/1zolGHg) reports that Adams County prosecutors charged 50-year-old David Masterson on Monday with two counts of first-degree murder.

Investigators say emergency responders dispatched Saturday night to a Quincy apartment found 41-year-old Jason Tournear’s body. Authorities say Tournear died of head injuries.

An autopsy on Tournear is scheduled for Tuesday.

Calls to Masterson’s court-appointed public defenders went unanswered Monday.

Masterson was paroled in August. Court records show that he has been charged over the past three decades with arson, robbery, theft, aggravated battery, threatening a public official and aggravated driving under the influence..
