PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a Glendale man involved in a fatal Phoenix freeway crash was driving without a valid license and admitted smoking marijuana before the accident.

Court records show 19-year-old Robert Joseph Lopez was arrested Sunday at Chandler Regional Medical Center on suspicion of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and endangerment.

Authorities say 16-year-old Devonna Crouch was riding in Lopez’s car and was killed in the crash on Interstate 10 near the interchange with U.S. 60 early Friday.

Police say Lopez lost control of the car and ran into the median and struck a light pole.

They say the collision killed Crouch when her head struck a bolt on the light pole.

Investigators say they got a search warrant to draw Lopez’s blood after he showed signs of impairment.
