MANTEO, N.C. (AP) - A judge has sentenced an Ohio man to almost 39 years in prison after he pleaded guilty in the strangling and stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend while vacationing on the North Carolina Outer Banks two years ago.

The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk reports (https://bit.ly/1wTvv25) 29-year-old Nathan Summerfield also pleaded guilty in Dare County Superior Court on Monday to first- and second-degree kidnapping in the death of 33-year-old Lynn Jackenheimer of Ashland, Ohio.

Jackenheimer was last seen July 3, 2012, on a vacation in Salvo with Summerfield and her two children. Summerfield returned to Ohio with the children, dropped them off with family and went on the run. Jackenheimer’s body was found July 14, 2012, in Frisco, 25 miles south of Salvo.

Authorities arrested Summerfield a month later in an Ohio motel.
