CLINTON, N.Y. (AP) - Hamilton College in New York is the latest campus to come under federal scrutiny for its handling of a reported sexual assault.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights last month agreed to investigate a student’s complaint that she was subjected to harassment after reporting she was assaulted on campus in 2013. The student also says the college shredded records related to her case after the campus disciplinary action concluded.

Ninety colleges across the country are currently being investigated for possible violations of Title IX, the federal law regulating how campuses handle reports of sexual violence.

In a statement Monday, Hamilton Title IX Coordinator Meredith Harper Bonham says the college responds fairly to student complaints, and that only one copy of case files are kept to protect privacy.
