LATHAM, N.Y. (AP) - New York military officials are marking the 378th anniversary of the National Guard.

A ceremony Monday at the headquarters in Latham will include Adjutant General Major. Gen. Patrick A. Murphy, the adjutant general, and Airman James McPartlin from Sand Lake, a new member of the Air National Guard in Scotia.

The guard traces its roots to colonial militias formed starting in 1636, with New York’s dating to establishment of the Burgher Guard by the Dutch East Indian Company in 1640.
