MIDLAND, Texas (AP) - Police have charged a West Texas man who they say bit an officer during his arrest.

Twenty-six-year-old Pedro Vega Jr. was being held in the Midland County Jail Monday morning on $26,000 bond. He is charged with assaulting a public servant, resisting arrest and failing to identify himself.

The Midland Reporter-Telegram reports (https://bit.ly/13pcUy0 ) police arrested Vega last week while responding to a burglary in progress. Midland police say Vega became confrontational and bit an officer after being handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car. They say the officer struck Vega in the head to make him let go.

Online jail records didn’t list an attorney for Vega.
