LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Las Cruces police say an armed man who entered a smoke shop is dead after being shot by a store employee.

Police say the shooting occurred Sunday night at the DCP’s Smoke Shop on South Solano Drive.

According to police, responding officers found the dead man lying on the store’s floor.

Police say preliminary information indicates the man was armed with a gun and had his face partially covered with a mask when he entered the store about 9 p.m.

Police on Monday identified the man killed as 24-year-old Luciano Acuna.

They say a store employee retrieved a handgun and fired multiple shots at Acuna and one of the bullets struck Acuna in the head.

Acuna was declared dead at the scene.
