PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island health officials are urging people to get vaccinated for the flu.

Health Director Michael Fine on Monday says it takes about two weeks after getting the vaccine to develop immunity, so now is a good time to get it. He says the flu vaccine is safe and is the best defense against the flu.

Anyone over 6 months of age is encouraged to get the vaccine, which can be delivered through a shot or nasal spray.

The health department says the strain of flu that is circulating can be especially dangerous for the elderly.
