MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Sentencing for a former state education official has been delayed.

The former director of federal programs for the state Department of Education, Deann Stone, and her husband, Dave Stone, were scheduled for sentencing Monday in Montgomery. But Circuit Judge Johnny Hardwick postponed it to Jan. 6.

A jury convicted Deann Stone in October of five ethics counts involving using her position to direct more than $10 million in federal grant money to the company that employed her husband. He was convicted of aiding and abetting her on each count.

The Stones, who are from Wetumpka, are free on bond while awaiting sentencing.
