MADISON, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say a Madison County carjacking ended in gunfire and the death of the suspect.

WLBT TV reports (https://bit.ly/1uHTeuC ) the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation.

Madison police say a man carjacked a person at a convenience store Sunday night.

Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker says the unidentified suspect then took off in the white Mercedes SUV and a police chase ensued.

During the pursuit, Tucker says the suspect rammed a Ridgeland police car and the stolen SUV came to a stop in front of a grocery store on U.S. Highway 51.

Witnesses said they saw a man run behind the store.

Tucker says the suspect was killed when he fired shots at officers.
