PHELPS, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say three people have died in a three-vehicle collision at a rural intersection in western New York.

State police tell local media that a car failed to stop at a stop sign around 10:50 a.m. Tuesday at an intersection on Route 14 in the Ontario County town of Phelps, 30 miles southeast of Rochester.

Troopers say the car hit a sport utility vehicle that then crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a pickup truck.

Police say the pickup’s driver and two passengers in the SUV were killed.

The driver of the SUV has been taken to a Rochester hospital. Police say the car’s driver didn’t require hospital treatment.

Troopers say Route 14 will remain closed for several hours while police investigate the crash.
