HARTSELLE, Ala. (AP) - Sheriff’s officials in eastern Alabama say a man has been charged with assault in a shooting during a hunting trip.

Etowah County sheriff’s investigator Fred Lasseter said in an emailed statement that 44-year-old Mark Shaw Hunt of Hokes Bluff is facing a felony charge of assault for a shooting on Saturday.

Lasseter says Hunt was aware that the Gadsden man he shot was also in the field when he fired. Authorities say the man was wounded in both of his legs and is recovering in a Birmingham hospital.

Hunt is being held on $10,000 bond in the Etowah County jail. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
