KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) - Rescue crews Monday failed to find a 13-year-old boy missing since Sunday at Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area.

West Hawaii Today (https://bit.ly/1GMeRAL) reports the boy jumped off a cliff at the recreation area and could not get out of the water.

The Hawaii County Fire Department and the Coast Guard began a search Sunday morning in moderate surf and wind.

They’re now terming the search a recovery effort.

The boy was last seen leaping off “Jump Rock,” a 15-foot cliff just south of the beach.

The boy was with two other 13-year-old boys. The boy’s name has not been released.
