BREAUX BRIDGE, La. (AP) - A two vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 328 in St. Martin Parish has claimed the life of a Breaux Bridge man.

Troopers say 88-year-old Ray Calais (kal-AY’) was driving his SUV westbound Monday on Poche Bridge Road, and stopped at a stop sign at its intersection with Highway 328. They say Calais pulled out into the intersection and was hit by a southbound SVU driven by 24-year old-Jeremy Levier.

Troopers say Calais was wearing a seat belt, but suffered critical injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Levier was taken to a Lafayette hospital with moderate injuries. Investigators say Levier was not wearing a seatbelt.
