CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - The Corvallis City Council has backed off a proposed ordinance that would ban openly carrying guns in the city.

KEZI reports (https://bit.ly/138TFHM ) the council considered the issue at Monday night’s meeting and, after heated debate, decided to push the issue into next year.

The council is considering a policy statement or resolution that would not change the law that currently allows gun owners to openly carry loaded firearms in certain areas.

Gun owners claim the right to protect themselves. Others want an open carry ban because a weapon on display can create fear.
