HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - W.E. “Sluggo” Davis, a familiar, folksy fixture at the DeSoto County Courthouse in Hernando for more than 25 years, is not running for re-election in 2015.

The 66-year-old Davis tells The Commercial Appeal (https://bit.ly/1wC7YAK ) that he told his staff several days ago about his decision.

Davis was elected in 1987 and re-elected since to six four-year terms. His term ends in January 2016.

Davis has a staff of 14 full-time and three part-time workers. He is clerk of the board of supervisors, county treasurer and auditor, and clerk of chancery court.

The DeSoto County native hails from a politically active family.

He’s the son-in-law of the late A.W. Bouchillon, former tax collector and assessor; father of former state senator Doug Davis; and a cousin of former Southaven mayor Greg Davis.
