EDGEWATER, N.J. (AP) - Edgewater’s mayor has resigned without giving an explanation.

James Delaney submitted a three-sentence letter to the town clerk on Monday, hours before a council meeting.

Delaney said he was sad to leave, but honored to have served residents for eight years.

Delaney was appointed mayor in 2011 after the death of Nancy Merse. He had been a councilman.

The Record newspaper (https://bit.ly/1yXQr7Z ) reports council president Michael Henwood called Delaney “a classy individual.”
